Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. In 2017, the song Despacito, which combines reggaeton with pop music has not just brought fresh attention to reggaeton music but also sparked interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 as opposed to two in 2015. In the midst of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. In 2020, there were 41. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018), while Madonna teamed up with Maluma on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in the year 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the evolution and development of reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro incorporated elements of other genres and electronic music.
